A Message from the Chairman

Welcome to our website!

As you may have noticed, our new motto is “Because it’s YOUR money!” One of the ways you can tell the difference between a conservative and a liberal is where they stand on “whose money it is.”

A liberal thinks it all belongs to the government. And, even worse, they think they’re being generous if they let you keep a little bit of it! They’re “statists” who show a complete misunderstanding of America’s heritage, and the true sources of wealth.

There are, ultimately, only a few sources of financial capital: That which is gained by digging minerals and other resources from the ground, from harvesting the bounty of the land and sea, from producing crops from the fertility of the soil, by the labor and creativity of the individual in transforming those raw materials into usable products, or by offering a useful service to others. “Money” is just how we’ve decided to keep score. It’s what our society has agreed on as a storehouse for the value of the capital we’ve labored so hard to amass.

To put it another way, liberals think that government is the master, and that the people’s labor and property are nothing more than a resource for them to take away for the “greater good.” Unfortunately for them, and for hundreds of millions of people around the world over the last century, their ideology leads to nothing but tyranny and poverty.

A conservative is, among other things, one who views government as our useful servant, albeit a potentially dangerous one – a creature that must constantly be kept in check by the citizens. This view is the one that the founders of this country held, and this is the philosophy that created the most dynamic freedom and prosperity in the history of the world.

That’s what the members of Idahoans for Tax Reform believe, and what we fight for in the public arena day in and day out.

If you’re not already a member, we hope that you will change that today by sending in your most generous contribution, either by mail or at www.idtaxreform.com.

We will do our utmost to keep you informed about the pressing issues that affect taxation, government spending and regulation in Idaho and nationally – through our website, email alerts, and with effective printed materials. We will also strive to keep you up-to-date on all candidates for public office and where they stand as we enter the next election cycle.

On a personal note, I would like to offer my heartfelt thanks to our founder, Laird Maxwell, for his many years of untiring service to this organization and to our great state, and for his help during the transition phase. Without his work, Idahoans would have a lot less of their own money, and less freedom. I know you will join me in wishing him only the best in his new endeavors!

For life and liberty,

Tom Hoefling
